Terms and conditions of the activity
- Surfing lessons for children aged 6 and over

- Children don’t need to know how to swim, but they must enjoy being in the water

How the activity works
Surf lessons in Messanges are organised as follows:
1️⃣ Practical information
- Suitable for ages 6 and over, in group lessons (maximum 8 people).
- Equipment provided: suitable foam boards and wetsuits.
- Please arrive 20 minutes before the lesson at the school hut, located on Messanges South Beach at Le Vieux Port campsite.
2️⃣ Course structure
1. Theory session on the sand: explanation of the tides, how waves form, safety rules and how to position yourself on the board.
2. Practical session in the water:
- Introduction to paddling and catching waves in a lying position;
- Learning how to stand up and maintain balance;
- Refining line choice for advanced levels.
3. Duration: 1½-hour group sessions.
3️⃣ Instruction
Led by state-qualified instructors (Surfing Certificate) and lifeguards, including Gary Zebrowski, a former Olympic snowboarder. Lessons take place at low tide, depending on optimal conditions.
4️⃣ Logistics
- Times vary depending on the tides and are announced the day before.
- Outdoor changing rooms are available near the hut.
- Instructions: please come in your swimwear, without any valuables, and bring sun cream.

- A parent or guardian must be present before and after the lesson for minors

Generally from the age of 6, provided the child is comfortable in the water and with small waves.
You don’t have to be an excellent swimmer, but being comfortable in the water is strongly recommended; beginners’ lessons take place in shallow, supervised areas.
Welcome and handover of equipment, warm-up, theory (safety, reading the waves), exercises on the sand, followed by practical session in the water with the instructor, and a debrief at the end.
Yes, except in the event of a thunderstorm, air pollution or exceptional weather conditions; rain alone does not usually lead to the class being cancelled.
