How the activity works
1️⃣ Itinerary
- Boarding at Capbreton harbour (jetty B) for a 2-hour 30-minute excursion.
- Search for cetaceans in the Gouf de Capbreton, an underwater canyon renowned for its biodiversity, where common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and, occasionally, pilot whales or sperm whales can be found.
- Ethical approach: strict procedures are followed to avoid disturbing the animals, allowing them to initiate the interaction.
2️⃣ Guided tour and scientific data collection
- The captain’s commentary on the species observed and the Gouf’s ecosystem.
- Data collection (number of individuals, behaviour) forwarded to scientists for study.
3️⃣ Probability of sighting
- Average success rate of 90% thanks to local expertise.
- No formalguarantee, as the animals live in the wild.
Tours are subject to weather conditions and a minimum number of participants.
