Hydrospeed, also known as ‘white-water swimming’, involves travelling down a river on a foam float, propelling yourself with flippers on your feet. Come and tackle the Nive on an hydrospeed, like a fish in water! You’ll take on the rapids using your foam float. With flippers on your feet, you’ll glide along with the current. You’ll take on the famous Pas de Roland rapid.
Enjoy a snack bar, a picnic area and hot showers at the centre. Free on-site car park.

How the activity works
1️⃣ Preparation and equipment
- Location: Base located in Itxassou (229 Errolako Bidea) on the banks of the River Nive.
- Equipment provided: foam float, flippers, wetsuit and neoprene booties, helmet and lifejacket.
- Requirements: must be able to swim; minimum age 12 years.
2️⃣ How the trip works
1. Briefing (45 minutes): safety instructions and navigation techniques explained by a state-qualified instructor.
2. Shuttle bus journey to the starting point on the River Nive, between Itxassou and Cambo-les-Bains.
3. Descent (minimum 1 hour 30 minutes):
- Position: lying on the float, propelling yourself with fins.
- Route: a mix of rapids (Class II–III) and calm sections, including navigating around rocks and small waterfalls.
- Supervision: constant support from a specialist guide.
3️⃣ Target audience and conditions
- Accessibility: Suitable for people with reduced mobility on request (subject to group composition).
- Groups: suitable for families, friends or corporate events.
4️⃣ Options and logistics
- What to bring: swimming costume or swimming shorts, towel.
